The Twinkles Dance Club, Inc. is a nonprofit social club that was founded in Sussex County, Delaware, in 1959 to provide a safe and welcoming space for dance-minded Members and Guests. The Club’s mission is to stimulate physical and social interaction through dancing and fellowship.
Twinkles? Really? Yes, the Club’s name sounds kind of silly or not serious, but that is the name our founders selected back in 1959, and we have had no need or interest in renaming it. Despite its playful name, the Club is an officially registered Delaware corporation that is serious about promoting dancing and socializing for Members and Guests from the local area. The Club is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected annually to plan, organize, advertise, and conduct six dances per year. Operating revenue is comprised of Membership dues, dance reservation fees from Members and Guests, and donations from a 50/50 raffle held during the evening. That revenue is used for hall rental, catering, decorations, and entertainment for each of the six yearly dances, P.O. Box rental, and state franchise fees.
The Club welcomes all singles and couples from the public to our dances. Everyone is encouraged to join and become a Member. Music by a DJ or live band covers a variety of dance styles and levels, including swing, tango, salsa, waltz, cha-cha, rock ‘n’ roll, foxtrot, and country, or whatever music is requested of our DJs. The Club is not focused on any style of dancing and urges attendees to ask our DJs to play the music that they enjoy dancing to within the dance theme for each event.
Dances are held on the second Saturday every other month beginning in February. Reservations must be made no later than 7 days before the dance. Regrettably, refunds cannot be made on reservations as the funds are committed to pay, in advance, for food, music, and hall rental.
